 EASTERN CAPE PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT
MESSAGE FROM THE MEC OF EDUCATION, MR STONE SIZANI
ON THE STATE OF READINESS FOR SCHOOLS OPENING
 ON 22 JANAURY 2001

TIME has come for all our education stakeholders to pronounce through active commitment to the goal of providing quality education, to all
learners of our Province.

The department belies in the right of everyone to education, including early childhood development and adult basic education as essential
pre-requisites for individuals to achieve their full potential. These will facilitate the expansion of human capabilities in knowledge
based and economic, political and social society.

I believe that all our educators and learners will continue their constructive engagement toward ensuring quality learning and teaching in
the classroom. The department has committed itself to the enhancement of quality of our classroom delivery and support.

We will continue to avail space and support to all learners who are committed to succeed by ensuring that they are accommodated in our
schools.

On-going in-service training programmes for our educators to improve their subject proficiency will characterize our professional
development strategy for this year.

Quality involvement by parents in the education of their children remains a critical aspect in ensuring good governance, orderliness
participatory school management and positive community participation.

Let all institutions promote values of democracy, human rights, patriotism and tolerance as they enrich our youth.

Officials of the department will be embracing our schools across the province as from the 23rd January in ensuring a smooth take-off whilst
providing the necessary support as to uplift the morale of our teaching corps and enthuse our learners.

Educators must play their critical role in the transformation and growth of our society through constructive and understanding work with
children, by creating a school environment in which learners are safe, respected, where their voices are heard and they are able to learn
and express themselves with no feeling of being constrained.

This demands the commitment and passion of all educators who deeply care for our children and want what is undoubtedly best for them.

I want to announce that all our institutions must ensure that there is adequate security measures undertaken to avoid loss of school funds
through robbery and theft suring for the support of our South African Police Service, Community Police Forums, Schools governing Bodies.
The regional officials are charged with the responsibility of ensuring that these criminal acts are not repeated this year and that all
perpetrators will be exposed and apprehended.

The department commits itself to continue working with all our partners in education to strengthen our education delivery and help raise a
permanent edifice of lifelong learning of which our Province is proud of.

Thank you.
